Building Magazine and Bluebeam Join Forces for an Informative Webinar
Common data environments and project communication are just two key topics that take center stage in an insightful webinar held in the U.K., hosted by Building Magazine and sponsored by Bluebeam. These two common themes resonated among webinar speakers Ike Ijeh, Architectural Correspondent for Building Magazine and Chair; Stephen Hamil, Director of Research and Innovation for NBS; Andrew Mather, Principal Structural Engineer for Ramboll; and Sasha Reed, VP of Strategic Development for Bluebeam. The speakers focused on the overall goal of integrating digital collaboration within the build environment, and gave examples of best practices behind the strategy.
Stephen Hamil advocated a three-pronged approach to implementation, touching on the need for buy-in and systems efficiency. “The best place to start is to set standards to follow the [BIM] PAS 1192 documentation, go through the project timeline, and talk about things like common data environment, best practices and key documentation—which all need to be put together,” he explains. “Then I’d say, do research and see what technology platforms are there to support you in that process. And if it’s a sizeable organisation, [implementation] needs support from enthusiasts at the bottom, as well as support from the top from a director level or a board level, to make the change happen. [In order] to have a proper process for managing information throughout a project timeline, I would start with these three things.”
The value of 3D PDF also weighs heavy within the webinar’s discussion, with Andrew Mather of Ramboll setting the stage. “At the heart of any unique design tool is finding that common data environment, and how you can communicate and link [the information] between different analysis tools. We see 3D PDF as one of the key ways of sharing this information with clients.”
